Saturday June 2 our long awaited 1st annual Bowl-a-Thon came to pass. It had been a long, hard row to hoe to get sponsors and individuals to join us in this first event. The schools, churches and the realtors ( who had run this event for us before ) did not come out to play. Our thanks and gratitude goes out to those folks that did sponsor and those folks from Habitat who both played and helped set-up, monitor and pack-up afterwards.
Sponsors were - Home Depot, Bright House, Denture Care Center, Eagles Aerie # 4372, Livengood Insurance and Moose Lodge #521. A special thanks to Pete Viernes from Moose Lodge #521 and my wife Linda who helped me get sponsors and gifts for the event.
In the end the turnout was not as much as we had hoped but we did fill 10 lanes with 46 bowlers having whoopin' and hollerin' fun. While we hope for a lot more participants in next years Bowl-a-Thon this was our first try and it has enabled us to see clearer what is necessary to improve upon the event in the future.
We ran a 22 item silent auction during the event, gave away 7 door prizes and 14 bowling awards. All in all I think everybody had a good time and hopefully with a bit more early planning and improved organization we can make next year a lot better. Final profit for the event was about $1700 - Thanks to all concerned!!
IF ANYONE AS ANY IDEAS OF HOW TO IMPROVE THE EVENT FOR NEXT YEAR YOU CAN REPLY ON THIS BLOG OR EMAIL ME THROUGH THE WEBSITE.
Today we started our first radio show over at WWJB 1450am. It was a half hour show starting at 1pm but boy does that half hour roll by quickly we hardly got into the stuff we wanted to send out on the first day. So much so that we decided not to wait for the next show in June but booked another 30 mins next wee, Tuesday May 22nd at 2.00pm.
We need to have one last thrust on the Bowl-a-Thon. The response has not been what we had hoped for so far. Schools, churches, realtors and businesses have not done much in the way of response. The 22nd will be our last chance to get the info out to potential sponsors and bowlers. All the Bowl-a-Thon info is on the website to review and download.
Below are some pix on the first day at the studio. The gal on the desk at WWJB is Peggy who helped us organise the show. In the red shirt is WWJB's on air personality Bob Haa who acted as interviewer and in the blue shirt is Cliff Fouts, Executive Director of Habitat.
If you missed us today tune in next Tuesday and hear what we're all about and how we can help each other.
Hi: My name is Bob Jillings. I am the current President of Habitat for Humanity. We have set up this blog within our website to be able to post quick news items, plans, wishes etc. to our website and at the same time to allow visitors to post their own comments, replies, concerns etc. so that we may better serve those donors who make Habitat's mandate of building decent, affordable housing for low income families, possible.
Feel free to ask whatever questions you want, respond to postings etc. The only requirement is to keep discourse civil.
